On May 7th, 2025, Agape Seniors hosted the Connect & Celebrate event, bringing together 18 seniors for an engaging afternoon of learning, creativity, and connection. As part of the ongoing Together We Thrive: Connecting Seniors, Engaging Generations program, the session focused on enhancing digital literacy through a hands-on digital postcard creation activity using Canva.
Facilitated by Keron Thorne, a certified digital communications specialist and college professor, participants engaged in an interactive activity , identifying how people communicated then and now. This activity showed the benefits of the evolution of technology and provided an opportunity for seniors to learn new digital skills while reflecting on cherished memories. They then explored how to design personalized digital postcards that could be shared with loved ones at the press of a button.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with one senior noting, “I never knew how valuable Canva was until today.” Another participant shared, “I’ve had Canva on my phone but never used it. I need practice to use it,” highlighting the importance of follow-up sessions to reinforce the skills learned.
The interactive session not only empowered seniors to connect with loved ones digitally but also reinforced the program’s broader objective of bridging generational gaps through technology. The event concluded with lunch in honour of mothers with Mother's Day just a few days away.
Stay tuned for upcoming sessions as we continue to build on the foundation laid during Connect & Celebrate, creating meaningful connections and digital competence among our seniors.
